As you know I’ve been sick for the past week. I’ve recovered for the most part but there is still some residual sinus pressure trying to push my eyes out. Because of this illness I smoked much less as a side effect. Today I realized that I had lost my taste (if one can truly have a taste) for cigarettes. So as of ten minutes ago I decided I was going to stop smoking. I had my last one and said goodbye again to my cancerous crutch. I have the same feeling I had two years ago when I had quit originally. Having only smoked for about five months this time I figuring it will be much easier. My plan of attack is simple. Keep a pack of gum and a bottle of water handy. When I had quit last time It was a simple matter of drinking tons of water to help flush my system and chewing gum when a craving struck. I don’t foresee any problems because tonight I was with a friend for six hours and didn’t have a craving. In fact I forced myself to have one last one and discarded the remaining one.

If you are one of the people I smoke with at work I ask the following with no rudeness intended: Please don’t ask me to join you for one. I just need a week to be rid of this habit again.

Because I know this saga is riveting I will keep you posted of my successes and setbacks.
