I was driving down the highway today on my way to pick up Dom for class. I have Sami Koivikko playing. All is good. Up ahead I see a blue sunbird swerving between the two lanes. I follow him for a bit and it just gets worse. At one point he swerved from the left lane all the way over the bus lane and on to the shoulder. He must have come within inches of hitting the barrier and flipping off the road in to Green's Creek. By now I'm on the phone with the Ottawa police and there are cars gathering behind me because they don't want to pass this guy. I followed him from where Montreal road starts all the way to St-Laurent, on to which he turns. Realizing that I'm following him he turns down a side street at the last second. While I'm following him I'm giving the police dispatcher a play-by-play. I had been trying to tell her what lane he was in but he was driving so erratically that I gave up. He turned down another side street in an effort to lose me and I told the dispatcher that as I continued by. She told me to hold for a moment and when she came back on the line and told me that a cruiser had pulled him over at the end of the road we were on after he apparently doubled back after I drove by. She said they would call me back if they needed me to file a report. About two minutes later the dispatcher calls back and tells me the guy wasn't drunk. He was just a really bad driver. All I could say was "Whaaaaaaaat?!?". I suggested that she have the guy tested for his license again. The whole time I was following him I thought I was about to witness a disaster. I fully anticipated that people were going to die because of him. After I got off the phone with the police I was shaking because for thrity minutes I was mentally preparing myself to jump out of my car and pry people out of wreckage... Just so you know, this isn't one of the stories where I embellish to the point that the truth in unrecognizable. This is for real dog.
That was my excitement for the day... Now I get to wind down with a little bit of switching concepts and design. Woot.
